This lock is advertised for exterior doors but does not stand the test of time.

I purchased 2 of these units in September of 2009 a few months apart, to use on the exterior doors of 2 residential group home facilities.

Within a few months of purchase, the sliding plate on the second unit came off within 3 months - poor quality. When I called to have a replacement sent Earthtech referred me to their distributor, who told me to ship the entire lock to them. This meant I would have to purchase AN ADDITIONAL lock as a back up while this lock was being repaired. Preposterous! Neeedless to say I did not send the lock.

The first lock I purchased stopped working completely November of 2012, after the anti-pick latch broke in September of 2012 (poor quality of materials). The sensor did not consistently read fingerprints accurately after a thin film (seemed like double-sided tape, poor quality) came off last year 2011.

This lock costs too much to fail after 3 years.

HORRIBLE customer service - the complete opposite of helpful!

Earthtech does not provide customer service. They will tell you to contact their supplier Digi Electronic Lock Co. Ltd. and/or Scyan Electronics.

Trying to reach someone by phone is near improbable (they are located outside the US and use a Google Voice phone number).

Email communication is no better, even when you complain. The quality of this product is poor and has failed to work as advertised. After sending 3 emails with photos to everyone involved (Earthtech, Scyan, Digi Electronics and someone named Sophie at Scyan), I finally received a reply a month after my initial email! I wanted to know where I should send this lock for repair, in addition to expressing my displeasure that this lock completely stoped working after only 3 years.

Scyan and Digi both proceeded to blame me for the failure of their product, this lock. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT AND THESE COMPANIES. Here are some parts of their reponse, verbatim...
From Scyan: "According to your description of the lock, we are sorry to say, the lock can not be fixed. It seems not a easy problem to fix at all, there are several parts need to be changed. We are a retailer not a manufacturer. We offer one year warranty not life warranty. We suggest you change a new one for replacement."
    From Digi:
"I see your lock, scratched seriously even in three years, quite unnormal, and I see your problem, it is serious and shgould not be taken place together within two years. I see the anti pick latch is even broken, this should be happen when you didn't install it correctly, and the anti pick latch should not spring out when doos is closed. And the sensor should be broken, but unfortunately, it is out of warranty time, so you have to buy a single latch and the PCB with sensor by yourself. Please understand this and we will not repeat our reply."
